The Real Story

A recent study published in Psychological Science showed that people who skip the small talk in favor of more meaningful conversation are generally happier than those who continually talk about the weather.

So on that note, everybody in my circle of acquaintances in my early twenties could probably tell you the forecast for the next five years.  Maybe that's why I was so cranky?  Of course I didn't realize this while I was actually going through my twenties.  I can assure you that I was single and absolutely fabulous with a good job and great shoes.  But as they say, hindsight is 20/20 and so it's easy for me now to see that I was also unfulfilled.  The older I got, the more I recognized that I needed a break from the superficiality of life that had me striving to be a diva, a vixen and a cut-throat career woman all at the same time.  I realized that being a woman who was passionate about things of real meaning was more important than a perfect pair of black pumps, cloying for the attention of men or stomping on the competition.

Since I don't have to waste any more time on that nonsense (I finally got married!), I can spend more time to think out loud on a variety of topics to include:

Real Life:  marriage, homemaking, family, Christian faith
Real Art:  fine art, photography, performing arts
Real History:  significant history, events, sociology stories, artifacts, news
Real Fun:  vintage treasures, movies, books, tv and music, space-a travel, personal photography

What you probably won't find on this blog are thoughts on football, politicians, video games, math, princessy wedding gowns and bitchiness as if it were a virtue.  I'm not a hater, I just happen to be better at the other topics instead.  Plus, they're more interesting anyway.  Okay, maybe I really do hate math.  The good news is that you'll never have to worry about me making you go up to the board to solve an equation.

But what I will ask of you is to jump right into a real conversation.  Put all that superficiality to the side and share some of your real thoughts.  I'll be listening because it's of real interest to me.
